From waste to resource, HealTerra cultivates healthy soil and a resilient, self-sustaining community.
Our Process
Creating Soil-enriching Compost and Worm Castings
Watch the video below to see the beauty of creating our amazing compost and worm castings. Turning the compost rows helps to evenly distribute the composting materials, moisture and air within the piles. This encourages microbes to break down organic matter and turn it into a rich, uniform composted product that is the ultimate soil amendment. The Sutherlin Project
A Model for Recycling Food Scraps and Improving the Soil in Rural Oregon
Timber Valley SKP Park and Wailani Shave Ice and Island Grindz share their experiences and the benefits of participating in the Sutherlin Project in the video below. Funded by a USDA program, this pilot project in the City of Sutherlin diverts food scraps from the landfill to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, while transforming them into nutrient-rich compost and worm castings that combat drought and replenish organic matter in local soils.
Who we are
HealTerra, a social enterprise, was created by Source One Serenity under its Stewardship core pillar to generate revenue supporting programs that help veterans connect with nature through outdoor recreation and trail stewardship. These programs provide purpose-driven experiences that harness the healing power of nature, addressing mental health challenges and the high rates of veteran suicide in the southwestern corner of Oregon.
