The Sutherlin Project
A Model for Recycling Food Scraps and Improving the Soil
Timber Valley SKP Park and Wailani Shave Ice and Island Grindz share their stories and the benefits of participating in the Sutherlin Project in the video below. This USDA-funded pilot program diverts food scraps from the landfill in order to create nutrient-rich compost and worm castings, invaluable for improving the region's soil. Everyone is excited to be involved in a sustainability project that benefits the local community while also supporting local veterans.

Who we are
HEALTERRA is a social enterprise of Source One Serenity, 501(c)3, a non-profit organization that empowers our veterans to reclaim their sense of purpose through outdoor activities and land stewardship.
HEALTERRA offers the first resource management operation of its kind in our rural county where all recycling has been suspended in June 2018. We also provide opportunities and support for veterans with accommodations for their needs in a protective environment! They have been through enough dealing with horror of war and we want to help them adjust to civilian life with serene and uplifting programs.
